The main areas of his marine engineering experience has been the investigation of problems and producing solutions in reinforced concrete construction, masonry sea walls, breakwaters and quay side walls.  Relatively modern concrete structures quite often, unfortunately require repairs after a relatively short time in use and, after many years in use, so do many masonry structures.  Steve’s experience in these fields has led to his involvement in the team that produced the CIRIA guidance on “old waterfront walls” and for PIANC (the world navigation authority), the also recently published “recommendations for the increased durability of marine reinforced concrete”.
